HAVANA, Cuba, June 23, 2009.- Cuban Yanelis
Santos was elected the Most Valuable Player
of the Norceca-F Women’s tournament held at
Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum.
Cuba won the competition with an unbeaten
record and qualified to the Final Round of
the World Championship in Japan next year.
Cuban Wilma Salas took home the honors as
best attacker and best server, and
Nicaraguan Myriam Blandino resulted the most
distinguished as best digger and best
libero. Nicaraguan Lolette Rodriguez and
Guatemalan Walda Maldonado were the best
setter and receiver respectively.

HAVANA, Cuba, June 23, 2009.- Cuba defeated
Guatemala 25-6, 25-15, 25-20 and qualified
with an unbeaten record to the Final Round
of the FIVB Women’s World Championship in
Japan next year.
The superior Cuba Team dominated its
opponent like happened in the other previous
contests against Nicaragua and
Trinidad-Tobago with a job shared between
regulars and substitutes.
Experienced setter Yanelis Santos and junior
player Wilma Salas were the only players in
the match who finished in double figures
with 10 points apiece.

HAVANA, Cuba,
June 23, 2009.- Trinidad and Tobago defeated
Nicaragua 3-1 (25-16, 25-10, 24-26-25-22)
and kept alive its hopes of advancing to the
Final Round of the FIVB Women’s World
Championship next year.
The victory
earned the Trinidadians the second place in
the Norceca-F third round tournament and a
berth in the play-off round scheduled for
next month in Tijuana, Mexico where the
runner-ups of all four third round
competitions will battle for two tickets to
Japan.
It was a clash
between the more physical talented
Trinidadians against the Nicaraguans’ better
technique.

June 22, 2009.- Cuba relied on its powerful
serves and crushed Trinidad-Tobago 25-16,
25-17, 25-13 in the second match of Monday
of the Norceca-D third round tournament of
the FIVB Women’s World Championship.
The win
improved the home team win-loss record to
2-0 while Trinidad-Tobago dropped to 1-1 and
a tie in second place with Nicaragua.

Nicaragua defeated Guatemala in four sets |

HAVANA, Cuba,
June 22, 2009.- Nicaragua recovered from one
set down to defeat Guatemala 24-26, 25-16,
25-16, 25-15 in a battle of Central American
rivals in the Norceca-F third round
tournament of the FIVB Women’s World
Championship.
The victory
avenged the loss to the Guatemalans suffered
at home last December and kept alive the
Nicaraguans’ hopes to qualify in the
important second place here. Nicaragua
evened its win-loss record at 1-1 and play
against Trinidad-Tobago on Tuesday in a
crucial clash.

HAVANA, Cuba, June 21, 2009.- Cuba
demolished Nicaragua in straight sets by
score of 25-9, 25-13, 25-16 in the last
match of Sunday in the Norceca-F third round
tournament of the FIVB Women’s World
Championship.
Yanelis Santos was the best Cuban scorer
with 14 points, including two blocks and
three service aces. Rachel Sanchez added 8
points starting only in the third set and
Nancy Carrillo had two aces among her seven
points.

Trinidad & Tobago sweep Guatemala |

HAVANA, Cuba, June 21, 2009.- Trinidad &
Tobago swept Guatemala 25-22, 25-21, 25-12
in the first match of the Norceca-F third
round tournament of the FIVB Women’s World
Championship.
The Trinidadians relied on the power of its
blocking as they outscored their Central
American opponents 12-2 in that category.
Kelly-Ann Billingy topped the winning side
with 12 points, 10 coming via spikes.

coaches of the teams that will accompany
Cuba in the Norceca-F third round tournament
of the Women’s World Championship all agree
that Cuba is a firm candidate to the
victory.
The tournament which awards a direct ticket

the Cuban capital with the afternoon marches
of Trinidad-Tobago vs. Guatemala and Cuba

round Norceca-F tournament of the FIVB
Women’s World Championship features one
heavy favourite and three contenders for an
important second place in the competition to
be played at Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum on
June 21-23.
Hosts Cuba, the Olympic bronze medallists
and currently ranked third by FIVB, are an
overwhelming favourite to win the only
ticket available for the Final Round of next
