Pairs from eleven countries will
compete in Boca Chica Beach
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 3, 2007.- Teams from
eleven countries in both genders will participate in the first leg
of the five-stop 2007 Norceca Beach Volleyball Circuit to be held
on the sands of Boca Chica, outside of the Dominican capital next
weekend.
Canada, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, El
Salvador, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Trinidad &
Tobago and United States of America have registered their
representatives for the event sponsored by Presidente Light Beer.
During a press conference held at the NORCECA headquarters, it was
announced today that a money prize of US$10,000 dollars will be
contested during the event, besides four slots in each gender for
the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro next July.
Mr. Ramon A. Garcia, president of the Dominican Republic
Federation, informed that all the organizing details have been
completed and predicted good crowds and a lot of excitement during
the matches.
The general technical meeting is scheduled for next Thursday at
Dominican Bay Hotel, which is the official villa for athletes and
delegates and is located next to the competition courts.
Mr. Cristobal Marte, president of NORCECA, considered the tour as
a giant step for the Confederation and the start of a new era for
beach volleyball in the region.
Several of the pairs representing the Dominican Republic in the
competition were introduced during the press conference.
The technical details of the competition will be managed by the
Beach Volleyball Commission presided by Mr. Carlos Beltran, vice
president of NORCECA, with the assistance of a group of experts.
