Women of USA, Costa Rica, Canada and Cuba move to semis in Boca Chica

 

SANTO DOMINGO , Dominican Republic , April 7, 2007.- USA , Costa Rica , Canada and Cuba placed their women teams in the semi finals of the Boca Chica Beach Volleyball Tournament, the first stop of the 2007 NORCECA Circuit, with each pair being successful in two outings on Saturday.

 

On Sunday, USA meets Costa Rica while Canada plays against Cuba in the final day of the event sponsored by Presidente Light beer.

 

Americans Paula Roca-Alicia Polzin won Pool E with a 21-15, 21-12 victory over Dominican Republic I (Suero-Almanzar) and eliminated Guatemalans Maria Orellana-Anna Ramirez) in quarter finals by score of 21-11, 21-13.

Costa Ricans Ingrid Morales-Natalia Alfaro beat Trinidad & Tobago (Woodenffe-Phillip) 21-7, 21-10 in the Round of 16 and then triumphed 21-19, 21-9 over Puerto Rico (Ruiz-Ramos) winner of Pool H.

 

Canada won Pool G with a 21-19, 21-7 victory over DR 3 (Burgos-Angeles) and moved to the semis by defeating DR I by score of 21-11, 21-19.

 

Cubans Ion Canet-Kirenia Ballar beat DR 4 (Fabian-Carmona) 21-14, 21-10 to take Pool F and continued with a 21-8, 21-15 win over El Salvador (Soler-Molina

Pool play: USA d. DOM I (21-15, 21-12); CUB d. DOM IV (21-14, 21-10); CAN d. DOM III (21-19, 21-7) and PUR d. TRI (21-7, 21-14). Round of 16: CRC d. TRI (21-7, 21-10); GUA d. DOM IV (21-16, 21-12); ESA d. DOM II (21-16, 21-19) and DOM I d. DOM III (21-13, 21-15). Quarterfinals: USA d. GUA (21-11, 21-13); CRC d. PUR (21-19, 21-9); CAN d. DOM I (21-11, 21-19) and CUB d. ESA (21-8, 21-15).
