Pairs of El Salvador reigned in Bahia Open
SAN SALVADOR , April 12, 2007.- The pairs of Geovanny
Medrano-David Vargas and Ivonne Soler-Laura Molina, both from El
Salvador , won the gold medals at the 2007 Bahia Open, the Central
American Beach Volleyball Tournament.
Fourteen teams, seven per each gender, took part in the
competition sponsored by Cerveza Bahia.
In the men’s final, the Medrano-Vargas duo crushed Francisco
Castro-Winston Calderon of Nicaragua by score of 21-16, 21-9,
while Soler-Molina edged Guatemalans Maria Orellana-Lourdes
Ramirez 20-22, 21-15, 15-13 in the women’s final.
In the men’s semifinals round, Medrano-Vargas downed Carlos
Leiva-Rafael Vargas also from El Salvador by
21-14, 21-15 and Castro-Calderon scored a 22-10, 21-19 over Jose
Suarez-Andres Lopez of Costa Rica .
Leiva-Vargas
took the bronze medal in defeating Suarez-Lopez 21-16, 16-21,
15-13.
In the women’s semifinals, Soler-Molina defeated countrywomen
Ingrid Rivas-Diana Romero (21-9, 21-12) and Orellana-Ramirez beat
Costa Ricans Carolina Leandro-Daniela Salazar (22-24, 21-14,
15-13).
The bronze medal went to Leandro-Salazar who defeated Rivas-Romero
20-22, 21-19, 15-13.
