Dominicans Suero-Almanzar in semifinals

 

GUATEMALA , April 21, 2007.- The women’s duo of Dominicans Magarita Suero and Bethania Almanzar advanced to the semifinals of the Guatemala Beach Volleyball Tournament while recording two victories over Cuba and Guatemala-1 on Saturday.

 

Suero-Almanzar first defeated Cubans Ion Canet-Kirenia Bell 21-15, 14-21, 15-9 to win Pool C and then scored a 21-17, 23-21 victory over the locals Maria Orellana-Anna Ramirez.

Also advancing in the second leg of this 2007 NORCECA Circuit were Costa Ricans Ingrid Morales and Natalia Alfaro, Canadians Sarah Pothhaar-Isabelle Czerveniak and Puerto Ricans Maritere Ramos-Ania Ruiz.

In the quarterfinals, Morales-Alfaro won 21-15, 21-11 over Americans Jenny Kroop-Renee Cleary, Pothhaar-Czerveniak edged Cubans Canet-Bell 15-21, 21-19, 15-8 and Ramos-Ruiz defeated Ivonne Soler-Laura Molina of El Salvador 21-15, 21-13.

In the men’s division, Puerto Ricans Juan Carlos Rivera-Abdel Otero won Pool C with a 3-0 mark with a 19-21, 21-8, 15-13 victory against Geovanny Medrano-David Vargas of El Salvador, the USA team of Brad Torsone-Jon Thompson took Pool A while breezing past Shervin Rankin-Olmey Thompson of Cayman Islands 21-11, 21-14 and Costa Ricans Marcelo Araya-Jonathan Guevara won Pool B with a 16-21, 21-16, 15-6 triumph over Juan Pozo-Yeuddys Perez of Dominican Republic.
