A seventh match will be necessary in Puerto Rico

CAGUAS, Puerto Rico, April 27, 2007.- A seventh and final match will be necessary to know the 2007 champions of the Puerto Rican Women’s Superior League.

In a do-or-die match and before a crowd of more than 6,000 at the Hector Sola Bezares Coliseum, Caguas overcame a one-set deficit and beat Juncos 25-27, 25-18, 25-19, 25-23 tying the best-of-seven series at 3-3. The decisive match will be played next Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in the Juan “Pachin” Vicens Auditorium in Ponce.

Vanessa Velez and Yarleen Santiago scored 21 and 20 points respectively and Jeztzabel del Valle added 15 to lead the victory of Caguas, winner of 10 crowns in the history of the Puerto Rican League.

Juncos, seeking its first title ever, was led by siblings Karina and Sheila Ocasio with 22 and 14 points.

“My girls did a tremendous job and now we are going to the Sunday’s match in Ponce after the championship,” said Juan Carlos Rodriguez, the coach of Caguas.
