Colima is the Capital of Mexican Volleyball
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 29, 2007.-
The Mexican Volleyball Federation has designated the city of
Colima as the Volleyball Capital of its country in 2007.
Prof. Alejandro Salinas de la Garza, President of the Mexican
Federation, made the announcement during the meeting of the
NORCECA’s Executive Committee and Board of Administration.
“Last Wednesday, during the closing of the National Olympiad we
informed to the authorities of the State of Colima that we
selected Colima as the capital of volleyball in Mexico for all the
competitions they are organizing in support of our sport,” said
Salinas, Executive Vice President of NORCECA Confederation.
Besides the National Olympiad, the city of Colima will host the
Sixth Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup in June, and the
National Festival of Mini-Volley, which includes the First NORCECA
Championships of Mini-Volley both for boys and girls.
“We are very pleased with the commitment of the authorities of
Colima in hosting two important events of our Confederation and
the support they give to one of our most important National
Federations,” said Mr. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, President of
NORCECA.
The Women’s Pan American Cup will be held on June 21-29 with 12
teams from the Americas battling for four tickets to the 2008
World Grand Prix.
Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, USA and Mexico are
confirmed for the Mini-Volley event. Also Guatemala and Costa Rica
are expected to take part.
