Mexico captured the bronze medal

MIAMI, Florida, August 8, 2008.- Mexico captured the bronze medal at the NORCECA U-19 Continental Boys’ Tournament by defeating Guatemala in straight sets. The score was 25-22, 25-21, 25-17.

Despite the loss, the Guatemalans offered strong resistance against the more experienced Mexicans in a match where both sides displayed excellent performances.

Juan Revuelta (15) and Jorge Cabrera (12) were the top offensive weapons of Mexico while Luis Garcia led Guatemala with 14 points, including five blocks.

“Our goal was to end in one of the top two places,” said Mexican coach Mario Becerra. “The bronze medal is good but not what we came here looking for. I am not satisfied. Now our only hope is if the International Federation grants another spot for NORCECA.”

“This tournament will be a good experience for my players,” said Jorge Paz, the coach of Guatemala. “For most of them it was their first international exposure.”
