St Kitts and Nevis takes lion share of awards

 

BASSETERE, St. Kitts.- The 2008 OECS Male Volleyball championships climaxed last evening with the bronze and gold medal places being contested. The championship which was being contested by five teams was held over a four day period at the Marriott Dome; saw St Kitts and Nevis capturing four of the seven special awards at stake.

 

Defending champions Dominica found the going too tough and they failed to reach the finals. However in the bronze medal match Dominica made amends for their preliminary round defeat to St Martin and had sweet revenge when they beat them 3-0.

 

After dropping one set in the opening match to St. Lucia, St Kitts and Nevis proved that they were true OECS champions when they thrashed St Lucia 3-0 to take the title.

 

Capturing the Best Server award was Clercent Joseph of St Lucia. David Toussaint  of Dominica was adjudged Best Receiver; the Best Setter trophy was awarded to  Ivance Richards of St Martin while Leonce Mathius of St Lucia copped the Best Digger award.

 

Meanwhile, St Kitts and Nevis added the following awards to their Championship trophy. Taking the Best Spiker award was, St Clair Hodge, Lancret Davis went home with the Best Blocker award, Kemoroy Percival, was the Best Libero while St. Clair Hodge took home the MVP award.
