Morales/Alfaro, Araya/Piskulich: Central American Champions
GUATEMALA, August 19, 2008.- Ingrid Morales and Natalia Alfaro of
Costa Rica were crowned as Champions of the Eighth Central
American Cup of Beach Volleyball.
Morales/Alfaro faced Ivonne Soler/Laura Molina of El Salvador in
the finals. The champions won by score of 21-13, 21-17.
María José Orellana/Ana Lourdes Ramírez of Guatemala, won the
bronze medal by defeating the pair of Costa Rica 2 of Ivette Alas/Marianela
Alfaro by score of 21-18, 21-12.
Morales/Alfaro reached the match for the gold medal by defeating
Orellana/Ramírez 21-12, 22-20, and Soler/Molina beat Alas/Alfaro
by 21-9, 21-19.
In a final between Costa Ricans in the men’s side, Marcelo Araya
and Zlatko Piskulich defeated the pair formed by brothers
Alexander and Gilberto Villegas. The final score was 21-17, 21-17.
Jeovanny Medrano/David Vargas of El Salvador, won the bronze medal
with a victory over Winston Calderón/Francisco Castro of
Nicaragua 2-0 (21-17, 21-13).
Araya/Piskulich entered the final match via a victory over Medrano/Vargas
26-24, 21-11, while the Villegas brothers defeated
Calderón/Castro19-21, 21-17. 15-7.
