Dominicans advanced taking the most difficult path
TIJUANA, Mexico, August 3, 2007.- The Dominican Republic advanced
to the round of the top eight teams taking the most difficult path
in volleyball: the five-setters. Not just one but three of them.
After defeating Peru, Russia and Italy by going to the limit, the
Dominicans will be the lone representative of NORCECA
Confederation in the top bracket of the 2007 FIVB Girls’ World
Championship.
Thanks to Jeoselyna Rodriguez and some courageous of her teammates
the Dominican Republic will battle for one of the top eight
positions in the world event for girls under 18 years-old.
The Dominicans defeated Italy 21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 22-25, 16-14
with Rodriguez scoring 27 points cementing her leadership in
scoring with 85 in three matches.
In other matches yesterday, China defeated USA (1-2 record) by
scores of 25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 25-23, Germany beat Puerto Rico
(0-3) 25-15, 25-10, 25-13 and Serbia downed Mexico (0-3) 25-22,
27-25, 25-16.
The other teams advancing along with Dominican Republic (C) as
Pool winners are Sebia (A), Brazil (B) and China (D). The second
place finishers also advancing to the main draw are Belgium,
Japan, Russia and Turkey.
The teams to be playing in Mexicali for positions 9 to 16 are
Puerto Rico, USA and Mexico are Germany, Italy, Peru, Korea and
Tunisia.
