The pressure will end in Monterrey –said Nancy Carrillo
MONTERREY, México, December 18, 2007.- Nancy Carrillo, the most
heralded Cuban player during the past year, is confident her side
will be crowned here at the Norceca Women’s Olympic Qualifier
where one spot for Beijing is being disputed by six teams.
“We have prepared very well in order to secure the ticket to
Beijing, the pressure must end here in Monterrey,” said Cuban
Nancy Carrillo, the most valuable player in almost every
tournament in which she has taken part this year.
The Cubans are the top favourites to take home the only berth to
the Summer Games being disputed in the Olympic Qualifier played in
the Nuevo Leon Gymnasium, in the light of the last encounters
between the teams of the area where only United States is ahead of
the islanders with three wins and two losses in 2007.
“Our spirit is very high, we knew that we had to prepare and we
did it because we have to play well and we want to confirm our
presence in China, the tournament is going to be tough because
with the exception of the Trinidadians the rest aspire to come out
on top, but we trust in ourselves that we are going to be the
champions,” said the star middle-blocker.
Nancy, one of the tallest players in the island’s side, was named
the Most Valuable Player in the Montreux tournament, The Sixth Pan
American Cup in Colima, the Rio de Janeiro Games and the Norceca
Continental of Canada, where they won the ticket to the World Cup,
where she was the best in attack and third in serve.
“I train and play well to help my team, if I stand out, much
better, because then my contribution is bigger. Now I am thinking
the same, to battle for doing the best I can, because at the end
of the day, the biggest winner is my own national team,” she said.
