First Continental
Mini-Volleyball Tournament awarded to Colima,
Mexico
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, February 24, 2007.- The First NORCECA Continental
Tournament of Mini Volleyball in both genders, will take
place in Colima, Mexico on July 16-20.
The site for that historic
tournament –the first ever organized internationally- was
decided during the first of two days of meetings by the
Sports Organization Commission of the NORCECA
Confederation.
Teams from Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Mexico have confirmed their
participation, with USA expected to do it in the next
few days. There is still room for another entry in the
six-team event for boys and girls up to 12 years-old.
In other news:
-Dominican Republic will organize the II Men’s Pan American Cup on June 1-9
replacing Mexicali &
Tijuana, Mexico. This is an eight-team qualifier
tournament for the 2008 America’s
Cup.
-Winnipeg, Canada will host the Continental Women’s Tournament on September
17-22, where the top two teams will advance to the World
Cup.
-The Men’s
Continental Tournament will be held in Southern California (Los Angeles or Anaheim) on September 1-9, where the
champion and the runner-up will move to the World Cup.
-The Women’s
Olympic Qualifier will be in Monterrey, Mexico on December 14-22, with the Men’s event confirmed in Caguas, Puerto Rico on January 5-13, 2007.
-The VI Women Pan American Cup,
a qualifier for the 2008 FIVB World Grand Prix, will be
in Colima, Mexico on June 19-30.
The meeting had a 100 percent of
the members in attendance and was presided over by Mr. Cristobal Marte,
President of NORCECA, and Mrs. Marta Centeno
de Sajche, the General
Secretary. Prof. Alejandro Salinas de la Garza, of
México, is the President of the Sport Organization
Commission.
