The 2010 FIVB World Championships begin: the Federations have
received the entry forms
LAUSANNE, Switzerland, 5 February 2008 – The process to compile
the entry list for the 2010 FIVB World Championships has just
started. The National Federations affiliated to the FIVB have been
summoned to the qualification process, by receiving all the
official documentations.
The goal has already been set by Dr. Rubén Acosta, President of
the FIVB: a record number of countries registered for the largest
worldwide Volleyball event ever. Italy for the Men’s competition
and Japan for the Women’s tournament will host the Championships
in 2010, with 24 teams for each gender. That will be the last part
of a huge event: the qualification process which will involve the
entire planet.
1 May 2008 is the deadline for all the National Federations to
register their teams for the 1st, 2nd 3rd
and Playoff Round Tournaments. Each Federation has also received
the conditions to organise the qualification tournaments. The
competition dates and formula will be chosen by the participating
teams within a group after the teams’ distribution, by 30 August
2008. This part of the qualification process will end by 31 August
2009.
4 teams are already qualified for the 2010 FIVB World
Championships: Italy and Japan as organisers, the Russian Women’s
team and Brazil’s Men’s team as World Champions.
