Corozal ties the Puerto Rico Final Series


GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico, February 4, 2010 – Defending champions Corozal edged Guaynabo in five sets (21-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23, 15-12) tying the best-of-seven Puerto Rico Men’s Final Series at two victories apiece.

 

Losers of two consecutive matches for the first time of the year, the Plataneros have caught momentum when it matters most. The action moves to Corozal on Friday.

 

“Let’s see how they react now,” said Fernando Morales, captain of the winners. “That’s the way the Finals should be.”

 

Robert Nielsen led the winners with 21 points and Matthew McKinney added 18 with five blocks and Casey Patterson contributed 14. Enrique Escalante charted 7 with three aces.

 

Eric Vance topped Guaynabo with 18 points and Thomas Hoff and Edwin Aquino recorded five blocks apiece and compiled 16 and 14 points respectively.

 

About 3,500 spectators were on hand at Mario Morales Coliseum and the match was on national television.
