Corozal is one victory away from the title

COROZAL, Puerto Rico, February 5, 2010 – Corozal is one victory away from revalidating the title in the Puerto Rico Men’s Superior League following a 15-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-13 win over Guaynabo to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven Final Series.

Robert Nielsen topped the winners with 18 points and Casey Patterson and Matthew McKinney added 15 and 10 respectively. Lucas Chavez led losers with 14 points and Thomas Hoff and Eric Vance charted 8 apiece.

The sixth match of the series will be played in Guayanabo on Saturday. In case of a seventh and decisive match it will be in Caguas, a neutral venue.

“We are confident after winning three straight matches,” said Enrique Escalante of Corozal. “We don’t want to go to a seventh match and give them a break.”

“We need to concentrate in what is happening between the lines, to focus in volleyball,” said Hoff, of Guaynabo, who was the captain of the USA Team in the last NORCECA Championship.
