2010 Caribbean Championships officially in Suriname


Paramaribo, Suriname, February 8, 2010 – “There are no concerns. Suriname can host the Caribbean Cup 2010.”

 

That is what president Mushtaque Mohammed from the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association said after a meeting with the Minister of Education Mr. Edwin Wolf, Sport Director Mr. Michael Watson, President Gerard van Dijk of the Suriname Olympic Committee, and Winston Cairo, President of Suriname Volleyball Federation. The meetings where fruitful as the government officials pledged their support for the hosting of the tournament in Suriname.

 

The Cazova President was in Suriname on Friday morning for the inspection of the sports facility’s where the games are expected to be played. He was invited by the National Volleyball Federation of Suriname.

 

The Anthony Nesty Sports Hall got the highest rate for the games; however, he noted that there as some work to be done on the locker rooms. The Caribbean Championships will be held through August 5-15 with the participation of sixteen teams (eight per gender)

 

Mushtaque also said that almost 240 athletes and coaches are expected to be in Suriname for the tournament. He inspected several hotels/apartments to be used for the accommodations of athletes and officials.

 

The President of CAZOVA also noted that the National Volleyball Federation of Suriname must keep beach volleyball in the country alive and recommended them to participate in the NORCECA Circuit, which starts later this month.
