Increased number of doping tests in 2010


SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, February 20, 2010 – An increased number of doping tests is foreseen for the 2010 competitions organized by the NORCECA Confederation.

The announcement was made by Dr. Andres Piña, President of the Medical Commission of NORCECA, which held its annual meeting on Saturday at the headquarters of the institution in Santo Domingo.

Piña, who is also member of the FIVB Medical Commission, informed that during the one-day meeting it was discussed a new format for the control of referees and judges and it was updated the list of medical doctors approved by FIVB.

The members of the commission made a revision of the list of banned substances and those others under control.

“It was a very fruitful meeting and we will continue with a more strict doping control in our competitions of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball to secure a clean sport,” said Piña of Dominican Republic.

The other members of the Commission who took part in the meeting were:

Dominicans Victor Figueroa and Milciades Albert, American Andrew Gregory, Guatemalan Juan Carlos Rodas, Mexican Hector Lozada, Cuban Oscar Torres and Puerto Rican Norberto Santiago.
