USA to play exhibition match in China


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, January 28, 2010 – The USA women’s national team will play an exhibition match against Chinese professional women’s league team Evergrande on February 2 as part of their intensive build up to the 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix.

Star players Tracy Stalls, Heather Hughes and Angie Pressey- all members of USA’s 2009 FIVB World Grand Prix squad, which finished ninth - will be travelling with the team.

Evergrande is coached by former USA women’s coach “Jenny” Lang Ping, who helped lead USA to silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.   

Additionally, USA team members Nicole Davis (libero in Beijing) and Christa Harmotto also play for Evergrande and will be joining the rest of their team mates after the exhibition match for training at the American Sports Centers in California. 

USA, who recently dropped two places from second to fourth in the FIVB World Rankings unveiled on Wednesday, will also use the trip which starts on Thursday before returning home on Wednesday as part of their preparation for the FIVB Women’s World Championship Japan 2010, which starts on October 29. 

The match, which will be aired on Chinese national television channel CCTV, will take place in the new Guangzhou Gymnasium at 7.30pm (local time).
