Guaynabo hits first in Puerto Rico Final Series


COROZAL, Puerto Rico, January 30, 2010 – Guaynabo defeated defending champions Corozal 25-19, 25-21, 25-21 in the first match of the best-of-seven Final Series of the Puerto Rico Men’s Professional League on Friday.

“We read very well the actions of their setter and neutralized the opponent’s attack,” said Ramon Hernández, the winners’ coach. “Our reception was did the job because Corozal is a team that depends heavily in the strength of its services.”

David Aleman, the coach of Corozal, gave credit to the opponents saying “they played very well, almost perfect.”

Eric Vance topped Guaynabo with 20 points and Lucas Chavez and Alexis Matías tallied 11 and 10 respectively. Thomas Hoff contributed nine points.

Casey Patterson and Enrique Escalante compiled 13 and 12 points respectively for Corozal and Matthew McKinney added eight.
