Barbados hoping for a wild card to the Play-off

CAGUAS, Puerto Rico, July 10, 2009.- Barbados scored a straight sets victory over U.S. Virgin Islands keeping alive its options of advancing to the Norceca’s Play-off round to be held next August. The score was 25-21, 25-21, 25-20.

Barbados took advantage of its experience as CAZOVA champions to prevail in the crucial moments of each frame.

“We had a great opponent in the U.S. Virgin Islands and that is good for our zone. About the tournament it was a good preparation for us. Now we have to go home and wait to see if we win the wild card for the play-off,” said Ludger Niles, the coach of Barbados.

Meanwhile, Jason Liburd, the coach of Virgin Islands was satisfied with the experience attained in this competition. “Our team gained a lot of experience and our young players have won a lot here.”

Barbados had Shawn Simpson has its best scorer of the match with 16 points and Elwyn Oxley and Romel Agard each contributed seven points. Jelani Richards led Virgin Islands with 11 tallies.
