New era for Beach Volleyball in NORCECA
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, March 2, 2007.- The 2007 Beach
Volleyball Circuit will start a new era in the North, Central
America and Caribbean Confederation, said Mr. Cristobal Marte,
president of the institution.
“We have been trying for many years to implement this event, which
should be a natural sport within NORCECA considering the fact that
most of our country members are islands,” stated Marte at the end
of the annual meeting of the Beach Volleyball Commission.
The five-stop tournament, in both genders, is set to begin at the
Boca Chica Beach in Santo Domingo during the Easter Sunday weekend
on April 6-8. It will continue in Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico
and Trinidad & Tobago.
“This event is a qualifier for the Pan American Games of Rio de
Janeiro,” said Marte. “The top four pairs of each gender will make
it to Brazil.”
Beach Volleyball is the fastest growing sport being very
attractive to television viewers and the fans.
Boca Chica is the most popular beach for the residents of Santo
Domingo and thousands of people traditionally vacation there
during the whole week before Easter.
