Cuba twice defeated China in
friendly series
HAVANA, Cuba, March 17, 2008.- Cuba capped the men’s volleyball
friendly series with a close victory over China at the Sport
Palace of Ciudad Deportiva in Havana.
The Cubans recovered from losing the first two sets before an
enthusiastic crowd with the emotions reaching the highest levels
during the tie-breaker.
Cuba won by score of 20-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19 and 16-14 with
Oriol Camejo, one of three brothers in the Cuban side, excelling
with his thunderous spikes. Consecutive attacks by Yadier Sanchez
and Wilfredo Leon produced the winning points in the decisive set.
Cuba had won the first match of the series by score of 25-23,
20-25, 25-15, 25-19.
The team coached by Orlando Samuels travelled to Guatemala on
Sunday 16 to train in the high altitude of the Guatemalan capital
in preparation for the Olympic World Qualification Tournament in
Dusseldorf, Germany next on May 23-25.
