Yumilka Ruiz MVP of Cuban Championship 

HAVANA, Cuba, March 20, 2007.- Constructors and Mambises won the women and men crowns respectively in the IV Cuban National League which concluded at the Ciudad Deportiva Sports Palace.

Led by Yumilka Ruiz and Yenisey Gonzalez with the accurate settings of Yanelis Santos, Constructors defeated Farmers 25-23, 25-23, 27-25. The bronze medal was taken by Selection with a victory over Dominican Republic 3-1 (17-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-22).

Mambises, led by Raidel Poey and Ariel Gil, played with better control than Energetics in their victory 25-23, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22.

The third place was for Farmers, the junior team in preparation for the World Championship, with a triumph over Selection 3-0 (25-22, 25-23 y 25-19).

Yumilka Ruiz was the Most Valuable Player and best receiver of the women’s division. Nancy Carrillo was the top scorer and Rosir Calderon the best attacker. The All-Star was completed by Yenisey Gonzalez (blocker), Yanelis Santos (server), Suramis Acosta (setter), Kenia Carcaces (defense) and Lisbet Arredondo (libero).

Pedro Iznaga was the MVP of the men’s division and the other members of the All-Star were: Raidel Poey (scorer),Darien Ferrer (attacker),Odelvis Dominico (blocker),Ariel Gil (server),Raidel Hierrezuelo (setter),Rolando Jurquin (receiver)and Keibel Gutierrez (defense and libero).
