USA World League Roster a
Wealth of Experience
ANAHEIM, May 1, 2007- -- Nine Olympians, including three who have
competed in multiple Olympic Games, highlight the U. S. Men’s
roster of 18 for the 2007 FIVB World League competition. Before
each weekend of World League , U . S. Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon
will choose which 12 players will compete from the list of 18 .
The roster of 12 can be updated before each weekend of matches.
Lloy
Ball, a three-time Olympic setter, re-joins the U . S . Men’s
National Team for the first time since the 2004 Olympics in Athens
. Veteran middle blockers Ryan Millar and Tom Hoff have each
played in the last two Olympics .
The
other players on the roster who played in Athens are middle
blocker Phil Eatherton, outside hitters Reid Priddy, Riley Salmon
and Gabe Gardner and opposites Brook Billings and Clay Stanley.
There are also two players who are joining the U. S. Men’s Team
roster for the first time: outside hitters Sean Rooney and Nils
Nielsen.
“This
is a group with a nice mix of experience and youth,” McCutcheon
said . “We look forward to seeing how they come together for the
competition. ”
The U.
S. Men’s National Team will begin its World League competition on
May 25-26, when it will face France in Portland, Ore gon . Other
U. S. World League matches will be played June 1-2 in Green Bay,
Wisconsin, against Japan and June 15-16 in Chicago, Illinois,
against Italy .
