NORCECA pay recognition to Puerto Rican League
CAGUAS,
Puerto Rico, February 21, 2005.- “As Puerto Ricans you have to feel
proud of having an excellent Women’s Volleyball League and you have
to make sure to maintain this wealth.” The President of the North,
Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (Norceca),
Dominican Cristóbal Marte, attended the 2005 All-Star Game of the
Women’s Superior Volleyball League of the Puerto Rican Federation to
recognize the work done
“In
2003 the Puerto Rican Federation was recognized as the best one in
the Norceca region due the international events they organized in
2002. On this occasion we recognize the Women’s League as the best
within Norceca and the second at America’s level, only behind
Brazil,” said Marte in a statement to Primera Hora Newspaper. “It is
not only a recognition from Norceca but also from the Federation
Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB).” Marte explained that the key
elements evaluated for the recognition were the attendance of the
fans, marketing, competitive level and organization.

NORCECA completes all it’s Commission
Meetings

Domingo, Dominican Republic. February 13 2005.-With the Marketing
and Finance Commission Meeting held on February 13, 2005, NORCECA
completed all it’s Commission Meetings programmed in accordance with
FIVB and NORCECA Constitution. The strategy for the marketing of
NORCECA events, marketing regulations and procedures manual to
obtain sponsors, as well as, NORCECA marketing corporate profile
were the top issues developed during the NORCECA Marketing
Commission Meeting, that was held in the new NORCECA Headquarters in
the city of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with the presence of
Lic. Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, President of NORCECA, Prof. Nelson J.
Ramirez, Secretary General, Mrs. Carole Beckford, President of the
Marketing Commission, Mr. Wilbur Harrigan and Mr. Carlos J. Beltran,
members. Also, NORCECA Finance Commission concluded its agenda in an
important meeting held with the presence of all commission members
under the leadership of Mr. John Griffith, President of NORCECA
Finance Commission.

Press Commission proposed Player of the Year Awards
SANTO
DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, February 12, 2005.- The NORCECA Press
Commission submitted today a proposal to establish the annual
election of the Player of the Year Award in both genders in
Volleyball and Beach Volleyball. The members of the commission are
of the opinion that these prize money and trophy awards should go to
the most outstanding players representing the region in the NORCECA
competitions and the FIVB major events. They also think that the
election of the MVP players should be the result of the vote of head
coaches and captains of the teams involved in the competitions.
During its annual meeting here, they also established the base for
the contents of a course to be lectured during a Seminar for
Journalists in cooperation with the FIVB Regional Development Center
in the Dominican Republic. Members attending the meeting were
Roosevelt Comarazamy of Dominican Republic, Lissette Ricardo of
Cuba, Humberto Pagan of Puerto Rico and Paul Soriano of USA.

The goal is one international referee in each country
SANTO
DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, February 12, 2005.- Each one of the 34
countries within the North Central America and Caribbean
Confederation must have an international referee by the year 2008.
That is the goal set today by the Referees Commission during their
meeting at the new headquarters of the Confederation in the Olympic
Center of this capital. It was also presented a Manual for Referees
Courses prepared by Jose Ramon Perez Vento and Jose Sanler of Cuba
which will be used in the development courses under the guidelines
of FIVB. With the application of this Manual we can be assured that
all referees trained by the NORCECA have gone through the same
process and have the same type of instructions. Perez Vento attended
the meeting along with Jose Luis Jimenez of Costa Rica, Jose
Caraballo and Felipe Gandara of Puerto Rico, Salvador Bautista of
Dominican Republic and Tom Blue of USA.

Caribbean Beach Volleyball Tour is around the corner
SANTO
DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, February 11, 2005.- The proposal for a
tentative Beach Volleyball Tour in the Caribbean was presented
during the annual meeting of the commission. Mr. Paul White of
Barbados said the tour would make stops in six countries starting in
Fort Lauderdale, Florida next August. The Sizzlin Sand Beach
Volleyball then would go to Guadeloupe, Trinidad & Tobago, Antigua,
Jamaica and Barbados. It was also decided to celebrate courses for
coaches and referees of Beach Volleyball in 2006 and another for
referees before the beginning of the projected tour. The members of
the commissions who attended the meeting were Pedro Garcia, Miguel
Angel Russo, Christopher St. John Smith and Marjorie Mara.

Development of Mini Volleyball rated as top priority
SANTO
DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, February 11, 2005.- The need to develop
Mini Volleyball around the NORCECA region was considered a top
priority by the Coaches Commission of the organization during its
annual meeting here. It was proposed a series of camps of Mini
Volleyball starting in Orlando, Florida and then spreading it out in
all the 34 countries. It was noted out the big gap between the top
countries of the region and those lesser developed. The common
thinking was that through Mini Volley that difference can be
reduced. During the meeting, it was announced the celebration of a
Level III Coaches Course at the FIVB Regional Development Center in
the Dominican Republic later this year. It was considered a major
step for the improvement of the sport within the NORCECA. The
commission decided to prepare a profile with all the conditions
required to take a course of that important level. The members of
the commission who attended the meeting were Eugenio George, Jorge
Perez Vento, Miguel Beato Cruz, John Kessel, Lorne Sawula, Mark
Tennant and Israel Garcia.

NORCECA Congress will be in Punta
Cana, Dominican Republic

Domingo, Dominican Republic, February 10 2005,-The
Congress of the
North Central America and Caribbean Confederation will be hosted in
the beautiful Bavaro Beach, Punta Cana in the southeastern coast of
the Dominican Republic on October 21-22 announced Mr. Cristobal
Marte, President of NORCECA during the annual meeting of the Sport
Organization Commission. During the presentation of the President’s
activities in 2004, Mr. Marte said during the Congress will take
place the elections for the Executive Committee that will direct the
organization for the period 2006-2010. Marte also announced the
hiring of Cuban coach Gilberto Herrera for six months to dictate
courses and seminars around Central America and the Caribbean, the
lesser volleyball developed countries in the region. The program
will finish with an eight-country tournament in Santo Domingo named
Regional Development Cup. During the two day meetings of this
commission, Mr. Mark Tennant of Canada presented the development
program vision 2008. This will be discussed in the meeting of the
commission and the Executive Committee during the Congress in
October.

NORCECA will adopt the same anti-doping as FIVB
Santo
Domingo, Dominican Republic, February 10, 2005,-The Medical
Commission of NORCECA will utilize the same anti-doping system of
the FIVB and WADA it was decided today during its annual meeting.
The medical doctors also will ask to the Presidency of NORCECA the
support of the institution to promote the Seminar of Sport Medicine
Applied to Volleyball that is being organized by the FIVB Regional
Development Center in the Dominican Republic. That event is
scheduled for May 17-22.Dr. Andres Piña of the Dominican Republic
and President of the Commission said that a new logo was discussed
and approved for the commission as it was also a standard form for
the report of injuries to be used in all tournaments around the
Confederation. The commission is also in the process of analysis of
the material for the elaboration of a Medical Manual for coaches and
trainers. The medical doctors who attended the meeting were Dr.
Heyda Joaquin, Dr. Pedro Fernandez Zucco and Victor Figueroa of the
Dominican Republic, Bernard Nau of Haiti and Jose Collazo and
Norberto Santiago of Puerto Rico.

and Caribbean Confederation began its annual meetings of the
different commission in the new headquarters of the organization at
the Olympic Centre in Santo Domingo. Mr. Cristobal Marte, President
of NORCECA addressed the welcome to the members of the Sports
Organization Commission who will have two days of sessions. The
Sports Organization Commission is presided by Professor Alejandro
Salinas of Mexico and has Mr. Gerald Rosina of Netherlands Antilles,
as Secretary. The participating members are Mr. John Blacher of
Canada, Mr. Omelio Castillo of Cuba, Mr.
Tom
Pingel of USA, Mr. Ramon Alexis Garcia of Dominican Republic, Mr.
Edgar Alvarado of Costa Rica, Mr. Andrew Hoyte of Barbados, Mr. Mark
Tennant of Canada, Mr. Carlos Beltran of Puerto Rico and Mr.
Mushtaque Mohammed of Trinidad and Tobago.In the next few days the
rest of the Commissions will have sessions of one day. These
commissions are Coaching, Refereeing, Medical, Beach Volleyball,
Media, Finance and Marketing.

NORCECA and FIVB Development Center announce several courses

The North America Central America and Caribbean
Volleyball Confederation and the FIVB Regional Development Centre in
the Dominican Republic announced part of their 2005 program during a
press conference in the headquarters of the centre. Mr. Cristobal
Marte, President of NORCECA, and Mr. Nelson Ramirez, Director of the
Centre, presided the meeting with the media along with Mr. Luis
Mejia, President of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Mr. Ramon
Alexis Garcia, President of the Dominican Volleyball Federation and
Mr. Jesus Martinez Alberti Vice Minister of Sports. On February 12,
several members or the NORCECA’s Coaches Commission will have a
clinic for local Physical Education teachers. The participating
coaches are Mr. Eugenio George, John Kessel, Israel Garcia, Jorge
Perez Vento, Lorne Sawula, Mark Tennant and Miguel Beato Cruz.
