USA won again, Cuba defeated Dominican Republic
KUMAMOTO, Japan, November 10, 2007 -- The United States continued
their winning ways in the World Cup with a 3-1 victory over
Thailand. The U.S. won the match 21-25, 25-19, 25-11, 25-13 to
remain unbeaten in the tournament at 7-0.
Tayyiba Haneef-Park topped the American attack with 17 points.
Four other USA players scored in double figures: Danielle Scott-Arruda
(15), Logan Tom (14), Jennifer Joines (13) and Kimberly Glass
(11).
In another match, Cuba had to battle hard to overcome the
Dominican Republic at Kumamoto on Saturday, but at the end earned
its fourth straight win by score of 25-13, 25-27, 25-23, 25-18.
The Cubans improved their record to 5-2 while the Dominicans fell
to 1-6.
Yanelis Santos led Cuba with 18 points and Nancy Carrillo and
Yumilka Ruiz added 16 and 13 respectively. Cindy Rondon was the
best Dominican scorer with 13 points and Bethania de la Cruz and
Sidarka Nunez each added 11 tallies.
In the other match in Kumamoto, Brazil elevated its mark to 6-1
with a straight sets victory over Korea 25-15, 25-17, 25-17.
In Sapporo, Italy maintained its perfect record at 7-0 with an
easy triumph over Kenya by score of 25-13, 25-13, 25-5, Serbia
defeated Peru 25-15, 25-15, 25-23 and Japan edged Poland in five
sets by score of 19-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-22, 15-12.
