Bahamas defeat Martinique in straight sets |

Bahamas' women defeated Martinique 25-23,
25-19, 25-20 during the third day of the
Seventh Caribbean Junior Volleyball
Championship at Baie-Mahault in Guadeloupe.
Coraline Joseph-Rose from Martnique got 9
points including 3 aces, but it was not
sufficient to take her team to victory
against Bahamas. Avoni Seymour made the
difference with 12 points including 4 aces
and led her team to victory.

PUNE, India, August 5, 2009 -
Cuba defeated United States 25-23, 25-23, 25-23
with the slimmest of margins on Wednesday during
the second day of Pool F competition of the 2009
FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship being
played at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune,
India.
Cuba improves to 2-0 and is in a good position
to advance to the semifinal match on Aug. 8. USA
falls to 0-2 in the four-team round-robin
second-round pool and is in danger of not
advancing to the semifinal round.

Martinique and French Guyana go to semi finals |

|
Martinique defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3 sets
to 1 (21-25, 25-14, 25-23-25-18) for its
second victory in the Caribbean Juniors
Championship. Jordan Marie Antoinette led the
winning side with 18 points and Simon Blake
was the best Trinidadian with a match-high 22
points.
Martinique now with 2 wins tops the group and
goes directly into the semifinals. They now
joined there other French territory team
French Guyana who also has 2 wins to top their
group and will also go into the semi finals.
French Guyana male team didn’t waste their
time.

Cuba starts Top Eight round on the right foot |

|
PUNE, India, August 4, 2009 – The FIVB
Men’s Junior World Championship second round
started Tuesday with classification rounds for
the Top Eight and 9-16 at the Balewadi Sports
Complex in Pune, India.
Cuba, Belgium, Brazil and India all earned
victories to start the second round top eight
classification pools on the right foot. The
top eight teams consists of countries which
placed first or second in its first-round pool
that took place July 31-Aug. 2. The 9-16
classification teams are comprised of teams
which finished in the bottom.

Guadeloupe’s women beat Martinique in straight
sets |

It was the clash of the two French teams at
the opening ceremony game.
Guadeloupe with a new but tall female team was
hoping to capture the media attention with an
opening game win and this they did. This was
the first time that people of Guadeloupe were
able to see their team perform and they
crushed their opponent in a three-set victory
to start the tournament in a positive note. In
another match, Bahamas and Barbados were both
started fighting.

Cuba and USA advance to second round in Men’s

PUNE, India, August 2, 2009 - Cuba edged
France 23-25, 25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 15-13 on
the third and final day of FIVB Men’s Junior
World Championship first-round Pool C at Pune,
India. Cuba and France and Argentina all
finished both 2-1 but France was left out of
the second round in terms of the point ratio.
Wilfredo Leon Venero pounded out 24 points for
Cuba, while Rolando Cepeda Abreu added 23
points. Armando Danger Mulen chipped in 16
points for the Cubans. USA lost to India
25-23, 25-21, 25-18. India and USA both
concluded the Pool A with 2-1 records, as well
did Belarus.

the morning of 1 August 2009 before the start
of the tournament.
The organizing committee was complimented for

NINGBO, China, August 2, 2009
- Dominican Repubic secured its first victory
at the 2009 FIVB World Grand Prix after
overcoming Korea in five sets on Sunday.
After losing to host China and
Russia earlier this week, Dominican Republic
won its last match in Pool C, 25-22, 25-12,
18-25, 24-26, 15-10 in 112 minutes.
South Korea's Kim Yeon-Koung
scored a game-high 22 points, 21 from spikes,
while Bethania de La Cruz (20 points) led four
Dominican players in two-digits. Annerys
Vargas, Milagros Cabral and Alttagracia Mambru
had 16.

Beijing Olympic Games silver medallist the
United States assured its first win in the
FIVB World Grand Prix 2009 here Saturday at
Maracanazinho Gymnasium. The American team
overcame Puerto Rico in a thrilling five-set
match, winning by 3-2 (21-25, 20-25, 25-23,
25-14 and 15-13) in the teams’ second match in
Pool A. With the win, the USA, that was
overcame by Germany in the first match, has
now three points in the tournament while the
Puerto Rican scored two with looses to Brazil
and the American.

Pool A by handling Tunisia 21-25, 25-19,
25-15, 25-21 on Saturday afternoon in Pune,
India. While USA improves to 2-0, Tunisia
falls to 0-2 in the pool.
USA captain Murphy Troy and Joseph Sunder
sparked the Americans with 17 points apiece,
while Antonio Ciarelli contributed 14 points.
Ismail Moalla paced Tunisia with 16 points and
Ahmed Kadhi added 10 points in the loss.

arrive to day 31st July in the sunny Island of
Guadeloupe. Tony Feuillard, President of the

airport as they arrive in preparation for the

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 31,
2009 –Teams from USA, Dominican Republic and
Puerto Rico will represent NORCECA
Confederation in the 2009 FIVB World Grand
Prix that kicks off in Brazil on Friday
morning.
The first match of the tournament in Rio de
Janeiro features hosts Brazil taking on Puerto
Rico at 10:00 in the morning followed by the
USA-Germany contest. Meanwhile in Ningbo,
China, the Dominican Republic meets hosts
China in the opening match of Pool C where
Russia and Korea are also competing.

and Canada were victorious in the opening day
of the FIVB Men’s Junior World Championship
while Cuba lost to Argentina in straight sets.
USA Team defeated Belarus 32-30, 21-25, 25-18,
30-28 and Canada came back to defeat Poland
19-25, 25-21, 15-25, 25-20, 15-11. Argentina
captured a 25-20, 31-29, 25-16 victory over
Cuba on Friday. Antonio Ciarelli led the U.S.
with 23 points while Joseph Sunder chipped in
15 points.

Germany are the new world champions of Women’s
Junior Volleyball following a 28-26, 26-24,
25-16 victory over Dominican Republic on

The new world monarchs came from behind to win
the first two sets and then dominated in the
third chapter against what seemed a deflated

The balanced attack of Brazil featured five
players in double-figures with Aparecida
Oliveira recording 13 points and Natiele

Alvarez of Puerto Rico was selected as the
Most Valuable Player of the Norceca-I third
round tournament of the FIVB Women’s World
Championship held in Caguas and won by the
home team.
The heavy hitter Alvarez also took home the
award as the Best Scorer of the three-day
event held at Hector Sola Bezares Coliseum.
In addition to Alvarez’s two individual
awards, Puerto Rican Debora Seilhamer was
elected as Best Receiver and Best Libero and
her teammate Vilmarie Mojica earned the Best

being held at Orlando, Florida. Barbados

Championship started with a triumph of the
selection of Canada over Jamaica, but not
without a close battle in the first set. The

The Jamaicans created problems in the first
set to the somehow surprised Canadians.
Jamaica Team was ahead 24-23 but could not
complete the job and lost 26-24. In the
following sets the Canadians dominated their
rivals almost completely.

the sweep of its two matches against Italy in
the FIVB World League by defeating the home team

Evan Patak and Sean Rooney recorded 21 and 20
points respectively to lead the Americans’
attack and Matthew Anderson added 12. Mauro

scorers.
On Friday in Fiorenza, the Americans won by

final match of the IV Pan American Cup and
advanced to the final contest against United

The score of the match was 25-18, 24-26,
25-21, 27-25. The contest was one well
fought since the start with both teams
trading the lead, but the effectiveness was

Gavin Schmitt led Canada with 27 points and
Toontje Van Lankvelt added 12. For Puerto
