Historic Event: Spain Returns to the FIVB Executive Committee!
Mr. Miguel-Angel Quintana new Vice President of the Executive Committee.

Lausanne, Switzerland, 29 April, 2005 - Meeting today through Sunday, the FIVB Board of Administration this morning elected Miguel-Angel Quintana to the office of Executive Vice President of the Executive Committee. Previously Mr. Quintana was a Member of the Board of Administration.

This election, voted unanimously, recognizes the considerable efforts that Mr. Quintana has expended on several occasions and his constant participation in World Volleyball affairs over the years.

Miguel-Angel Quintana, who is 59 years old, was President of the Spanish Volleyball Federation for twelve years, from 1988 to 2000. He is currently President of the Beach Volleyball Commission of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) - of which he was also Vice President for six years, from 1995 to 2001. In addition Mr. Quintana is a member of the Permanent Committee of the Beach Volleyball World Council, as a Representative of the National Federations.

This is the first time since 1974 that a Spanish personality has been elected to the FIVB Executive Committee as Vice President (Arturo Cortés held this office from 1971 to 1974).

Shortly after his election Friday morning, Miguel-Angel Quintana exclaimed: "What an exciting surprise! And more responsibilities for the future! President Acosta and the Board of Administration have placed their trust in me and it is a great honour. I am going to work hard, and with all my heart."
